Daily devotion – You were created to worship God.

Revelation 4:11
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

Do you know that you were created to worship God? When you worship Him, you are fulfilling the very reason for your existence. This is why Satan works his hardest to keep you from doing so—to distract your mind, to pull your attention away from God.

In our modern world, Satan keeps people busy. He places before us constant distractions—little things that eat away at our time and hearts, pulling us away from God’s presence in worship. Many even skip church because they are too busy chasing after the “little foxes” that spoil the vineyard.

Last Wednesday evening, as the Church gathered to pray, we spent the first half of our time simply waiting on the Lord—placing aside our busyness so that He had our full attention. God is always speaking, but we are not always listening.

From the very beginning, God established a day of rest so His people could cease from work and worry, and worship Him. Sometimes, God even allows us to be forced into rest. I know in my own life, I ended up in a hospital bed—and I knew God had allowed it so that I could not run about in my own busyness. In that stillness, I sensed Him saying (not in an audible voice, but deep within): “Now that I have your attention, there are things I’ve been wanting to talk to you about.”

This reminds me of the account of Martha and Mary. When Martha complained that her sister was sitting at Jesus’ feet instead of helping in the kitchen, Jesus gently answered:

“Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41–42)

Notice the Scripture says Martha was distracted. Her attention was taken away from Jesus.

Too many people arrive on a Sunday to Church so overwhelmed from the busyness of the week that their ears, eyes, and hearts are dulled, blinded, and choked by the things of this world. They end up feeling out of place in the very house of God.

But the truth is this: if your life is too busy to worship, then something else has taken the throne of your heart. The very breath in your lungs was given so you might worship the God who created you.

Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:9–10:
“Put off the old man with his deeds, and … put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.”

And remember Jesus’ words when He was questioned about paying taxes: “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:21)

Your worship belongs to God. This week, seek to change the pecking order of your busy life. Stop. Be still. Take time to worship your Creator.
