Daily devotion – A man called Andrew.

Following Andrew’s Example

One disciple I am really looking forward to meeting one day is Andrew, Peter’s brother. He’s not mentioned many times in the Bible — only thirteen times across twelve verses in the NKJV. There are no great speeches or headline moments attributed to him, yet what a faithful and inspiring disciple he was.

Andrew was one of the first followers of Jesus. And what’s the first thing he does after meeting the Lord? He goes straight to find his brother Peter and brings him to Jesus.

“One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.”
— John 1:40–42

Andrew had a heart that longed to connect others with Christ. When he saw the boy with the small lunch, he brought him to Jesus — and what followed was the miraculous feeding of more than 5,000 people. Later, when certain Greeks wanted to meet Jesus, it was again Andrew, along with Philip, who made the introduction.

“Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.”
— John 12:22

Andrew may not have stood in the spotlight, but he was always pointing people toward Jesus. History tells us that Andrew was eventually crucified for his faith — faithful to the very end.

Here at CCSH, we’ve held what we call “Andrew Sunday” — a special service where each person purchases a Bible and prepares a gift bag for someone they’ve personally invited to church. That person receives their special pack upon arrival, followed by lunch with their host and fellowship after the service.

This beautiful idea flows right out of Andrew’s life and Jesus’ command:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…”
— Matthew 28:19

Maybe it’s time to have another “Andrew Sunday” before the year’s end. Is there someone you could invite — a friend, neighbour, colleague, or family member — who needs to meet Jesus?

Let’s follow Andrew’s example.
Let’s bring people to Jesus.
