Daily devotion – Hold Fast!

Hold Fast Until He Comes

The protestors are still protesting, still crying out “Free Palestine.” The hatred of the Jews is still seen in the streets of many cities around the world. Israel is still seeking the return of the bodies of its hostages. You can’t help but ask, “When will all this ever end?”

There are times when we look at the world and its continual rebellion against God and it becomes wearisome to our souls. We long for peace. We pray for our children and grandchildren. Our hearts ache as we see our nation—Australia—drifting so far from the values it once held after fighting in two world wars, then Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and beyond.

When the weight of living in a wicked world feels overwhelming, we must draw close to one another as believers—to encourage, to pray, and to feed upon God’s Word together.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us of this vital truth:

Hebrews 10:23–25
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some,
but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

That Day is approaching. The signs of the times remind us that the return of Jesus Christ is nearer now than ever before. The darkness of this age should not discourage us—but rather drive us to deeper faithfulness, stronger fellowship, and greater hope in the One who is coming soon.

Hold fast. Jesus is coming.
