Glorifying God in Our Body and Mind
Before we trusted in God, we used our bodies for sinful and selfish pleasures. But now, as followers of Christ, we belong to Him. Our desire is to use our bodies for the glory of God!
The Bible tells us that the Christian’s body is God’s temple:
1 Corinthians 6:19–20
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
It is now our privilege to glorify Christ in our bodies and to magnify Him. Just as our Lord took on a body to accomplish God’s will on earth, we too must yield our bodies to Christ so that He may continue God’s work through us.
In the Old Testament, every sacrifice placed upon the altar was dead. But today, we are called to offer our lives as living sacrifices—daily surrendering ourselves to the Lord for His purposes. This means that every day becomes a worship experience when we yield our bodies to the Lord for His glory.
However, we are not only to give Christ our bodies; we must also give Him our minds.
Romans 12:1–2
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
The world seeks to change your mind by exerting pressure from the outside. But the Holy Spirit transforms your mind by releasing power from within. If the world controls your thinking, you will be a conformer; but if God controls your thinking, you will be a transformer!
God renews our minds and makes us spiritually minded through His Word. As you spend time meditating on Scripture, memorizing it, and letting it shape your inner life, God will gradually align your thoughts with His will and His mission for your life.
Heavenly Father, I thank You that I belong to You—body, soul, and spirit. Today I offer myself as a living sacrifice for Your glory. Help me to honour You with my body, to keep my mind fixed on Your truth, and to walk in obedience to Your will. Holy Spirit, renew my thoughts, cleanse my heart, and use me as an instrument for Your purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
