Daily devotion – Time alone in your room with God.
Deuteronomy 4:39
“Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the LORD Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.”
When was the last time you looked into Heaven?
Sir Isaac Newton once wrote,
“I can take my telescope and look millions and millions of miles into space. But I can lay it aside, go into my room, shut the door, get down on my knees, and in earnest prayer, I can see Heaven… and get closer to God than I can assisted by all the telescopes and material agencies on earth.”
Jesus said,
Matthew 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Each day our eyes involuntarily take in tragedy, heartache, and immorality. But the Lord invites us to step away from it all and spend time alone with Him.
There are moments when I simply sit quietly in His presence and reflect on the Scriptures that give us a taste of what awaits us in Heaven. During such times, God gently intervenes in my thoughts, forgives my failings, and encourages me where I struggle.
He won’t call you on the phone, send you a text, or write you an email. Yet He will always be personally with you — when you make time to be with Him, just Him.
And every time we leave that sacred place, we’re left asking ourselves, “Why don’t I do this more often?”
