Guarding the Gospel with Jealous Devotion
Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 11 carry the tone of a father’s fierce love. He says, “I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy.” His passion isn’t possessive — it’s protective. Like a dad watching over his daughter, Paul longs to keep Christ’s bride pure from spiritual deception.
In Corinth, smooth-talking self appointed “super-apostles” preached a different Jesus — a faith dressed up with human pride and performance. Paul saw through the charm and warned the church not to settle for Jesus plus anything: Jesus + success, Jesus + good works, Jesus + self-fulfilment. Add anything to Jesus, and you lose Jesus.
Our world isn’t much different. We’re surrounded by polished influencers, trendy teachers, and “positive spirituality” that mentions Jesus but drains His cross of power. Paul reminds us that the gospel is simple — Christ alone saves.
So, how do we guard that simplicity?
Parents — protect what shapes your family’s faith.
Pastors — teach the truth even when it’s unpopular.
Believers — test every message that claims to be Christian.
Skip Heitzig once said, “The gospel is so simple, we’re tempted to complicate it.” Don’t let the noise of culture drown out the beauty of grace. True servants of Christ stay jealous for the gospel’s purity.
Keep it simple. Keep it sincere. Keep it about Him.
