When God Lifts You Up: Revelation and Humility
Have you ever had a moment when God opened your eyes to something breathtaking — an answered prayer, a spiritual insight, a glimpse of His glory? Those moments lift us. But Scripture warns: what God gives to lift us can easily be twisted into pride that brings us low.
The apostle Paul experienced that tension. In 2 Corinthians 12, he describes being “caught up to the third heaven,” hearing things too wonderful to utter. It was a genuine, holy experience — yet Paul refuses to boast. He doesn’t even name himself. Why? Because every revelation God gave him was a commission, not a credential.
Paul’s life was full of these divine moments: the blinding encounter with Jesus on the Damascus Road, the Macedonian vision that redirected his mission, the late-night reassurance in Corinth, the angelic promise during a storm at sea. Each vision wasn’t about Paul’s status — it was about God’s purpose.
True spirituality isn’t measured by how high we’ve soared but by how deeply we walk in humility afterward. God sometimes lifts us to remind us that His plans are higher than ours — not to give us a platform for pride.
So if God has entrusted you with influence, insight, or opportunity, hold it lightly. Don’t clutch revelation as proof of superiority; carry it as fuel for obedience. The closer we come to heaven’s light, the more we see how small we are — and how great Christ is.
When God lifts you up, let humility keep you grounded.
