Daily devotion – A man sent by God.
Sent from God
John 1:6–7
“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.”
I can’t wait to meet John the Baptist in Heaven. Can you imagine sitting down with him and hearing about his life and the ministry God gave him—to prepare the way for Jesus? What a calling! Yet what grips my heart most is verse 6: “There was a man sent from God!”
That simple phrase carries such power. John’s life was not an accident; he was divinely appointed and sent for a purpose—to point people to Jesus, the Light of the world. And here’s the wonderful truth: you and I, too, are sent from God. We may not wear camel’s hair or cry out in the wilderness, but every believer has a calling to bear witness of Christ.
As Paul reminds us in Colossians 1:13, God “has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.” Those who have been brought into the Light now carry that same Light into a dark world.
Every morning when I wake up, and every time I stand in church, I’m reminded that God has sent me for His purpose. What a privilege it is to live with that awareness—that our lives are not random but divinely assigned!
2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ.” An ambassador represents his or her homeland, speaking on behalf of its king. A messenger (Collins English Dictionary) You and I represent Heaven—our true home—and our King, Jesus Christ.
So as you step into this week, remember who you are and whose you are: you are sent from God. Jesus Himself gave this commission to His followers in Matthew 28:18–20—to go, make disciples, baptize, and teach, knowing that He is with us always, even to the end of the age.
Let’s live knowing we have been sent. Let’s shine His Light.
Let’s do this!
