Daily devotion: Marriage God’s Way
Ephesians 5: 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
Godly Foundations for Marriage
Marriage is like building a house—its strength depends on the foundation. In a world where relationships are often unstable, the Bible calls us to build our marriages on the solid rock of God’s Word, not the shifting sands of culture or emotion.
Psalm 127: 1 Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it;
Here are five godly foundations for a strong marriage:
The Light of the Word: Bring your marriage into the light of God’s Word. Let Scripture reveal what’s truly there and guide you towards growth and healing.
Wake Up: Be alert to the influences around you. The world may redefine marriage, but God’s design remains unchanged. Stand firm in biblical truth.
Walk Carefully: Good marriages require attention and care. Be wise and intentional in your actions, watching each step you take together.
1Pe 3:7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
Redeem the Time: Prioritise your family and faith. Don’t wait until it’s too late to invest in your spouse and children—cherish the time you have now.
Be Filled with the Spirit: You can’t love or submit as God calls you to without the Holy Spirit’s help. Ask God daily to fill you, guide you, and empower your marriage.
Ephesians 5: 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.
Let’s build marriages that last—rooted in God’s truth, strengthened by His Spirit, and lived out with love and purpose.
Lord, help us to build our marriages on Your Word. Fill us with Your Spirit so we can love, serve, and honour each other as You desire, in Jesus Name, Amen.
