Daily devotion -The greatest miracle!

“He Is Alive Forevermore!”
John 20:13–18

She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”
14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”
She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.

I want to remind you this Monday, as you read this devotion, of what I believe is the greatest miracle in the history of the world—that Jesus Christ, crucified and buried, rose again three days later from the grave—alive forevermore!

It struck me afresh on Sunday as we gathered for Holy Communion as the body of Christ:
Jesus died and rose again!

Too often, we as followers of Christ forget what really happened a little over 2,000 years ago. God—in human flesh—died upon Calvary’s Cross, was buried, and three days later the stone was rolled away from His borrowed tomb, never to be rolled back again.

Death was defeated!

This miracle is the very sign from God to assure you and me that the living God of Israel and His Son, Jesus Christ—our Messiah and Saviour—are real, powerful, and victorious.

Jesus Himself spoke of this sign:

“An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish,
so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
— Matthew 12:38–40

From the very beginning, God promised He would accomplish this. In Genesis 3:15, He said,

“I will cause hostility between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring.
He will strike your head, and you will strike His heel.”

The Cross and the empty tomb are the fulfillment of that promise.

Let us walk each day in complete confidence knowing that Christ is alive forevermore, and that soon He is returning for His Church!
