From the Pastor’s Pen
Matthew 5:39–41 “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.”
This time of year there often seems to be a heightened aggressiveness or plain rudeness as we go about our daily business. As believers, it is precisely in moments like these that we can quench the enemy’s fires and change the very atmosphere around us by applying God’s Word.
Recently, I was waiting patiently at a fast-food store to pick up my order. I had been there for some time, along with others who had arrived after me. A man walked in and, when the staff member called out those magic words, “Who’s next?” he quickly jumped the line and claimed the spot.
My first reaction was my worst reaction—and everyone in the store looked my way, expecting me to speak up. Yet instead of insisting on my rights, I held my peace.
But the Lord wasn’t done teaching me. As this man was leaving the store, his arms full of food and unable to open the door, I stepped forward and opened it for him. To my surprise, he thanked me warmly and politely.
“Big deal,” you might say—but for me, it was a lesson and a blessing from the Lord. I walked out knowing that my initial reaction had not been Christlike. Yet by following Christ’s command, God sent me home not stewing over an insignificant incident, but carrying a quiet lesson from Him. Remember Jesus’ words: go the extra mile. Who knows—you may be blessed in the process as well. As we head toward Christmas, let’s change the atmosphere wherever God places us by bringing the presence of Christ with us.

Helen’s heart
Mark 15: 40 There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, 41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem. Last Friday evening, the women of Calvary gathered in honour of our Lord Jesus Christ. Together we shared the trials and victories the Lord has faithfully walked us through in 2025. It was a precious night to give God all the glory and honour due to His name. A heartfelt thank you to all the ladies who served and made the evening a blessing for others. It was wonderful to see so many women of God gathered here at CCSH. May each and every one of you have a blessed and safe Christmas 2025. We look forward to seeing how the Lord will continue to bless the Women’s Ministry here at Calvary.
