Daily devotion – In His presence!
Many of you know that my favourite verse in the Bible is Exodus 33:11:
“And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle…”
It is not filled with great announcements or miraculous events. Yet again today, as I write this devotion, my heart is drawn to the beauty and wonder that lie beneath this verse.
When I look back over my life before knowing Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, by all outward appearances it was a good life. But behind so many carefully dressed facades lie hidden truths—things broken, crumbling, and falling apart. If my past life were a building, it would have needed condemning.
And yet, once again today, the wonder of God’s Word speaks to my heart of the love, goodness, and mercy of the one true God—His kindness and His forgiveness. I am brought to my knees yet again in worship and thanksgiving.
For Joshua, at this moment in his life, being in the presence of God was the only place he wanted to be—and he was not leaving that place for anything.
As we open our Bibles each day, we too can experience what Joshua did in that moment. In fact, we have something even better now, for there is nothing that separates us from a holy God:
Hebrews 4:16
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
My prayer is that you would stay long in His presence—not only as you open His Word, but throughout your day—for He is with us always.
John 14:16
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.”
