Daily devotion – A broken world is all around us.
Acts 8:4–8
In Acts of the Apostles 8:4–8, we see the Lord powerfully using Philip the Evangelist as he went down to Samaria and proclaimed Christ. The result was extraordinary — the people listened with one accord, demons fled, the lame were healed, and Scripture simply records:
“And there was great joy in that city.”
What a beautiful description of the work of the Gospel:
Christ preached → captives freed → lives restored → joy overflowing.
Philip had not begun as a famous preacher. He was first chosen as a faithful servant to distribute food and care for practical needs. Yet because he lived yielded to the Holy Spirit and obedient to God’s call, the Lord entrusted him with something greater — bringing Christ to multitudes, and later even guiding him toward Gaza where one searching soul would hear the Gospel and believe. The first African believer!
This reminds us of a vital truth: God uses surrendered people, not merely gifted people.
Over recent days, Helen and I have been asked by many — hurting souls, captive hearts, weary families, people longing for hope whether they can express it or not. The world is not slowly improving; it is revealing more clearly how deeply it needs Christ.
The same Lord who sent Philip still seeks men and women today.
He looks for believers willing to:
speak the Gospel faithfully
pray for those without a shepherd
trust God to do the miraculous work of healing hearts
bring Christ’s joy into places filled with sorrow
When we surrender ourselves in simple obedience, God can use us — perhaps not before crowds in Samaria, but in living rooms, hospital wards, workplaces, youth groups, and quiet conversations — to bring His freedom and His joy.
Someone near you today is waiting for the touch of Christ.
Will you be the man or woman God can send now?
