Daily devotion – a tiny messenger of God.
God’s Care in the Ordinary
Matthew 6:25–26
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
Birds have become an important part of my life since I came to Christ some 49 years ago. After I was saved, nature—and God’s design within it—became very real to me. The beauty and colour of His creation drew me to take a closer look at God’s handiwork, revealing the majesty and splendour of Him who is our Creator.
But it is the little birds I see throughout my day that cause me to stop, pause, and reflect on the grace of God in my own life. As I went about ministering today, in what is often a very worldly atmosphere, the world of AFL, a small “welcome sparrow” suddenly flew alongside me. Its confidence—its audacity to live in such a big, violent world—once again put on display the glory of God.
Here was this tiny creature, with its companion, darting here and there without a worry in the world. It lived with the quiet assurance that the Lord was watching over it and would supply all its needs.
As I watched intently, it was as though the Lord gently reminded me once again, “Why do you worry so?”
Yes, all around us God is constantly speaking to us of His majesty and His grace—if only we have eyes to see.
Take some time this week to open your eyes to those little messengers God sends our way, reminding us that we are not alone and that we have nothing to be anxious about.
Psalm 19:1
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.”
Psalm 84:3
“Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young—
Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
My King and my God.”
