Daily devotion – May God open our eyes and lift them off of ourselves.
Redeeming the Time
God gives each of us the same amount of time in a year, a month, a day, and an hour. Yet none of us knows how much time we will have in total. Only the Lord knows.
His desire is that we do not waste the time He has entrusted to us in selfish or careless living. Instead, God grants believers the privilege of serving as His ambassadors in this fallen and broken world. How often we move through our days unaware that the person we bump into — or the one with whom we begin a simple conversation — may be someone God has placed before us so we might show that we belong to Christ.
Each day He gives opportunities: to pray with someone, to weep with them, to rejoice with them, to listen, to speak hope, and to share the gospel. Yet we must honestly ask how many hurting or lost souls we have overlooked because our eyes were fixed on our own concerns.
This week, may the Lord cause the scales to fall from our eyes and make our hearts newly sensitive to His leading. When He opens a door, whispers to our spirit, or arranges a divine appointment, may we be ready to respond with love and obedience — remembering that every person we meet is someone for whom Christ died.
“So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’”
— 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NLT)
