Daily devotion – Where is your treasure?
“Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail…” (Luke 12:33–34)
Jesus said:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19–21)
And again:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Charlie Kirk once said, “Our aim is not to live a happy life—our aim is to live a holy life. Our aim is not to have a happy marriage but a holy marriage; our aim is not just to raise happy kids but to raise holy kids.”
The Christian life is not complicated—yet it is profoundly searching. At its core, it comes down to one great command:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30)
Everything flows from this.
So why then do so many struggle? Why are there those who are always learning, yet never truly arriving at the knowledge of the truth?
The Scriptures give a sobering answer. In the last days, many will become “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:4–5).
The issue is not a lack of knowledge—it is a misplaced love.
God is not first.
And where He is not first, something else always is.
Jesus does not compete for priority in our lives. He does not accept a divided throne. He will never settle for second place, nor will He receive the leftovers of our time, our devotion, or our affection.
He is Lord—or He is treated as little more than a religious accessory to whom you give only the leftovers of what is yours.
Today is a good day to pause and examine your heart. Ask the Lord to search you, to reveal what truly holds first place within.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Let Christ not simply be part of your life—let Him be the center of it.
He can only be first in. your life!
