Daily devotion – Built by the Lord, Lived for the Gospel

Pastor Keith   -

Psalm 127:1
“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

1 Corinthians 9:16
“For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”

Have you ever tried to describe a breathtaking scene—perhaps a glowing sunset or snow-capped mountains—to someone else? No matter how carefully you choose your words, they never quite capture the moment. There is something about seeing it firsthand that words simply cannot convey. And if we’re honest, it can feel disappointing when our description falls short.

So it is with the things of God.

We may long for others to experience the wonder of walking with Christ, to feel the joy of worship, to delight in His Word, or to be stirred by answered prayer. Yet no amount of persuasion or enthusiasm can produce genuine spiritual life in another person. You cannot manufacture awe. You cannot compel worship. There must be a personal encounter, a willing heart, and a responsiveness to the Holy Spirit.

Some believers, though sincerely saved, remain distant in practice—lacking passion, service, or hunger for the things of God. Their Bibles remain closed, their prayers quiet, their lives untouched by the deeper joy of fellowship with Christ.

This is why Paul writes:

1 Corinthians 4:16
“I urge you, then, be imitators of me.”

Paul understood something vital—while we cannot ignite the heart, we can illuminate the path. By setting a living example of devotion, love, sacrifice, and obedience, we give others something tangible to follow. Paul could say this because he himself was following the perfect example—Jesus Christ.

A life fully yielded to Christ becomes a testimony louder than words.

This week, in your home, in your church, and in your daily walk, be that example. Let others see your love for the Word of God, your faithfulness in prayer, your joy in serving, and your willingness to give. Not for recognition, but as a reflection of a grateful heart—one that remembers the great cost of your salvation.

For unless the Lord builds the house, all our efforts are in vain. But when He is the foundation, even the smallest act done for Him carries eternal weight.
