Daily devotion – A question that cannot be answered.
There is a story told of a Welsh preacher who, at the beginning of his sermon, leaned over the pulpit and said with great solemnity:
“Friends, I have a question to ask. I cannot answer it. You cannot answer it. If an angel from heaven were here, they could not answer it. And if a devil from hell were here, he could not answer it.”
By this point, every eye was fixed on him. The room had fallen completely silent.
He then asked:
“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” — Hebrews 2:3
Even today, there is still no answer to that question.
Not because the question is unclear—but because the answer is unavoidable.
If salvation is rejected, there is no alternative.
If Christ is neglected, there is no other way.
If grace is ignored, there is no escape.
In a world full of solutions, opinions, and self-made paths, God presents one way—through Jesus Christ. It is not hidden, complicated, or out of reach. It is offered freely, at great cost, through the cross.
The real danger is not open rejection—but quiet neglect.
To hear the truth and delay.
To know the gospel and drift.
To assume there will always be another time.
“How shall we escape…?”
The silence of that question should stir every heart.
Today is the day to respond. Today is the day to draw near. Today is the day to receive what God has so graciously given.
