Daily devotion – Getting ready for this Sunday’s Church gathering!

Pastor Keith   -

Sunday is coming—it’s just a few days away. Those who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, who love Him, will gather to worship God, to hear His Word, and to serve Him and one another.

But how are we to approach the Lord’s Day, the gathering of the body of Christ?

The Scriptures remind us that our gathering is not casual, nor is it optional in spirit or purpose:
Hebrews 10:24–25 – “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together… but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

We come not merely to receive, but to stir one another up—to encourage, strengthen, and bless.

So we ask ourselves: What is my part in this?

Perhaps it is serving in practical ways—cleaning the church, preparing classrooms for the youngest saints, or ensuring that even the ablution areas reflect care and thoughtfulness:
Colossians 3:23 – “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

Maybe it is the honour of teaching the little ones, planting seeds of truth in tender hearts:
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “And these words… shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…”

Or perhaps your ministry begins before you even arrive—through prayer. Every one of us can prepare the way by seeking God for His hand upon the service:
Ephesians 6:18 – “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”

We can ask the Lord to pour out His grace and power, to magnify His name, and to make us sensitive to those around us—those who may need a kind word, a prayer, or simply to be noticed:
1 Thessalonians 5:11 – “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another…”

Church is not like attending an ordinary event. The church is a living body:
1 Corinthians 12:27 – “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”

Each one is vital. Each one has been given a gift to bless others:
1 Peter 4:10 – “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another…”

So it is never, “What will this church do for me?”
Rather, it is always, “What part, what role, what blessing am I bringing this Sunday?”

Let us prepare our hearts before the Lord:
Psalm 122:1 – “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”

Come expectant. Come prayerful. Come ready.

And look forward to seeing how God will guide and use you—to be a blessing to others and to glorify His name.
