Daily devotion – The signs of winter are here.

The Certainty of His Seasons and His Coming

Genesis 8:22
“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

As I write, our first real taste of winter weather begins to gather. Dark clouds roll in and build upon one another. The ocean roars louder than it has for months, and powerful waves carve away great portions of the shoreline, dragging them relentlessly into the depths.

It is a vivid reminder that our world moves according to a set rhythm—like a great, divinely wound clock—faithfully turning through its appointed seasons. Here, we are moving through autumn, steadily approaching winter. And just as Scripture declares, these cycles continue without fail.

From the very beginning, God established this order, and it has never deviated. The consistency of the seasons testifies to the faithfulness of His Word.

In the same way, the promises concerning the return of our Lord are just as certain.

As we look beyond the natural world, we see another kind of storm gathering—across nations, in unrest, and in the increasing tension seen throughout the world, particularly in regions long marked by conflict. These are not random events, but part of a greater unfolding according to God’s sovereign plan.

Therefore, we lift our eyes with confidence and hope. We join in that final prayer recorded in Scripture:

Revelation 22:20
“He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

So as the winds rise and the rains fall in this autumn season, let them remind us of something deeper:
Just as surely as the seasons change at God’s command, so too will His promises be fulfilled.

His plan is unfolding.
His Word stands firm.
And His coming draws near.

Let us live watchfully, faithfully, and with hearts ready—knowing that we are indeed living in the closing moments of this age.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
