Daily devotion – Trusting in the Promises of God!

Standing on the Certainty of God’s Promises

In Acts of the Apostles 23:11, the Apostle Paul receives a powerful and personal assurance from the Lord Jesus while imprisoned: “Be of good cheer… you must also bear witness at Rome.” What a promise—clear, direct, and filled with purpose.

Yet almost immediately, the situation seems to spiral in the opposite direction. In the very next verses (Acts 23:12–13), more than forty men conspire together, taking a solemn oath not to eat or drink until they have killed Paul. From a human perspective, Paul’s future looks sealed. The promise of Rome appears overshadowed by a very real and imminent threat of death.

But this is the tension of the Christian life.

There is no smooth sailing in a spiritual battle. The presence of God’s promise does not eliminate opposition—it often invites it. The enemy resists what God has declared. Yet opposition does not nullify God’s word; it only sets the stage for its fulfillment.

Those men were serious. Their zeal was intense. Their plan seemed airtight. But they had reckoned without God.

Paul would not die in Jerusalem—because God had already said Rome.

This same truth is seen in the life of Abraham. In Paul’s Epistle to the Romans chapter 4, we are reminded that though Abraham and Sarah were far beyond the natural age of childbearing, he “did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief.” Instead, he was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, fully convinced that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

What a pattern for us.

Faith is not denying the reality of danger or difficulty—it is trusting the certainty of God’s word above it. Paul could have focused on the forty men. Abraham could have focused on his aged body. But both chose instead to rest in what God had spoken.

And what was the outcome?

Paul stood in Rome, just as the Lord had said. Abraham held Isaac, the child of promise, just as God had declared.

God’s promises are not fragile—they are unbreakable.

So today, whatever stands before you—whatever threatens, discourages, or seems to contradict what God has spoken—remember this: God is not limited by circumstances, opposition, or time. What He has promised, He will accomplish.

Scriptures for Reflection:

Acts 23:11–13
Romans 4:20–21
Numbers 23:19

Rejoice in God’s promises before you see them fulfilled. This is the pathway of victorious faith—glorifying God not just for what He has done, but for what He has said He will do.
