Daily devotion – Yes it is Easter!
The Church gathered outside in the cool of a clear evening sky, the full moon casting its gentle light upon us as we worshipped our Lord and sat under the teaching of His Word. There was something deeply fitting about it—simple, reverent, and alive. This is the true heartbeat of the Church: sinners saved by grace, seizing every opportunity to gather with others whose lives have been transformed by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” — Matthew 18:20
Children huddled in blankets, listening intently, as we were taken back in time to the Garden of Gethsemane. With olive trees around us, the scene felt almost tangible. We considered the sorrow and crushing weight Christ endured as He faced the cup of God’s wrath, knowing that our sins would be laid upon Him.
“And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” — Luke 22:44
Gethsemane happened because it was necessary. Christ came to save us from our sins and to give us eternal life. The sobering truth is this: we are the reason for Easter.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
Yet our world has largely trampled over the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection. Holiness has been cast aside, replaced with the pursuit of self and pleasure. To follow Jesus Christ requires surrender—and for many, He interrupts lives already filled with busyness and distraction. The world rushes on, unaware that sin is a fatal disease leading to eternal separation from God.
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” — Proverbs 14:12
We see the effects of sin daily—broken marriages, hopelessness, and hearts searching for meaning. Instead of turning to God, many look to the world’s modern “influencers,” whose lives are often nothing more than fragile facades. How different this is from the cry of the Philippian jailer:
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” — Acts 16:30
Rather than stopping to seek truth, people continue running like a wheel-bound creature, moving constantly yet going nowhere.
But God has not stopped working. His Holy Spirit is still drawing hearts to Himself. Our calling remains unchanged—to be faithful witnesses, to gather together, to pray, and to worship the One who has redeemed us.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14
As we gathered on the chapel lawns, the world around us carried on with its routine. Yet our hope was that our presence would shine—quietly but clearly—a light in the darkness. That perhaps someone passing by would pause and remember: “Oh yes… it’s Easter.”
This Good Friday at 6:00pm, we are given another opportunity—to witness to our families, our friends, and our community. To declare that Easter is not just a date on a calendar, but the remembrance of Christ’s death on the cross and the triumph of His resurrection.
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” — 1 Corinthians 2:2
Let us continue, therefore, to be faithful.
