Daily devotion – Each new day brings Gods leading
Jesus waited for a woman at a well. He saw Nathanael sitting alone under a tree. Moses was watching over his father-in-law’s sheep. Where do you and I fit into all of this?
Jesus once told the story of a shepherd who was missing one sheep. Leaving the ninety-nine safely enclosed, he went searching for the one that was lost.
“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.” — Matthew 18:12–13
How wonderful it is to know that the Lord seeks after individuals. He met the Samaritan woman at the well in her brokenness. He saw Nathanael before he was ever called as a disciple. He spoke to Moses while he faithfully carried out ordinary responsibilities in the wilderness. God meets people in the everyday places of life.
The same is true for us today.
Each morning when we awake, God is waiting to lead us into good works He has already prepared for us. There are people to meet, prayers to pray, responsibilities to fulfil, and opportunities to glorify Christ. Yet so often we ignore His leading. Instead of being attentive at the well, sitting quietly under the tree, or faithfully watching over what God has entrusted to us, our attention becomes consumed with the distractions and foolishness of this world — things that in eternity simply do not matter.
The Bible tells us:
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and He delighteth in his way.” — Psalm 37:23
God is not absent from your daily life. He orders steps, opens doors, arranges meetings, and guides His children. The question is whether we are walking closely enough with Him to notice His leading.
Today, lift your eyes to the Lord. Begin the day asking God to lead and guide you. End the day asking Him to go before you into tomorrow. As you walk with Him, you will find yourself at wells, under trees, and caring for those entrusted to you — and Jesus will be there to meet you, guide you, and bless you.
The Lord does not desire for His children to wander aimlessly. He seeks us, leads us, and lovingly directs our paths for His glory and for our good.
