Daily devotion – Peace in the storm!

Pastor Keith   -

How confident are you in God’s Word and His promises? We saw last Sunday in the book of Acts that Paul was completely at ease in trusting his Lord, believing that he and all the passengers aboard the stricken vessel caught in a massive storm would survive and safely reach land.

Acts 27:22–25,
“And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.”

What a powerful statement: “I believe God.” Paul did not say, “I hope things work out,” or “Maybe we will survive.” His confidence rested fully in the promises of God. Though the winds were fierce and the ship was breaking apart, Paul’s heart remained anchored in the faithfulness of the Lord.

Paul teaches us that we can have God’s peace even in the midst of life’s storms. This is why he later wrote in Philippians 4:6–7,
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Back in Matthew chapter 6, Jesus also calls us to live free from anxious worry:
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life… Look at the birds of the air… your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

The Lord reminds us that worrying never changes tomorrow, but trusting Him changes how we walk through today. He knows every need before we even ask. He sees the storms before they arise, and nothing ever takes Him by surprise.

As believers, we are living in increasingly uncertain times, yet the promises of God remain unshaken. The same Lord who carried Paul safely through the storm is the same Lord who watches over us today. He has not lost control of your circumstances. He has not forgotten your prayers. He has not abandoned His promises.

This week, may the Lord encourage us to rest in His peace and settle our hearts in His faithfulness. Instead of being overwhelmed by the storms around us, may we confidently say with Paul, “I believe God.” Let us trust His Word, stand upon His promises, and walk forward in faith knowing that He has everything in His hands.
