Good Works That Glorify the Father

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

Jesus gives the ultimate purpose of our light in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Our good works are not meant to draw attention to ourselves. They are meant to point people to God. When we live generously, honestly, kindly, and courageously because of Christ, people notice — and they should ultimately give glory to our Father in heaven.

These good works flow from a transformed heart. They are powered by the Holy Spirit and motivated by love. Whether it’s helping a neighbour, integrity at work, forgiveness in relationships, or caring for the hurting, our actions become visible signs of God’s kingdom.

The goal is never self-promotion. The Gadarene demoniac was healed and sat clothed and in his right mind — people glorified God. The woman at the well told others about Jesus and many believed. Our lives should do the same.

Today, live so that your good works cause people to say, “They serve a great God — I want to know Him!”

Let your light shine — not for your own reputation, but so your Father in heaven is glorified.

Heavenly Father, help me do good works that reflect Your character. May my life cause others to see Your goodness and give You glory. Amen.
