Salt That Flavours and Creates Thirst
Salt doesn’t just preserve — it brings flavour. It makes food taste better and awakens the appetite. Jesus says we are the salt of the earth (Matt 5:13), meaning our lives should add goodness, joy, and zest to the world around us.
Christians who live like Jesus bring out the best in people. Our kindness, integrity, generosity, and hope should make life more enjoyable and meaningful for those around us. We should leave people better than we found them — pointing them toward the abundant life found only in Christ.
Salt also creates thirst. In ancient times, salt blocks were given to cattle to make them drink more water. Salty popcorn at the movies makes you thirsty. In the same way, a salty Christian life should create spiritual thirst in others. People should look at our peace, our joy in difficulty, our love, and our purpose and say, “I want what they have.”
When your life is distinctly flavoured by Christ, it naturally creates curiosity and longing for the Living Water — Jesus Himself.
Are your words and actions adding flavour to your workplace, home, or friendships? Or have you become bland and tasteless?
Let your life be so distinctly Christian that it makes people thirsty for more — thirsty for the Jesus who satisfies the soul.
Lord, season my life with Your flavour. Make my words and actions refreshing and attractive. Use me to create a thirst in others for the Living Water. Amen.
