Can’t Wait to Be in Church
Psalm 122:1
“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
It’s Friday, the end of the working week. What thoughts are going through your mind? Relief that another week of work has ended? Excitement that school is over? Perhaps you’re thinking about the sporting fixture you’ll be playing in or watching over the weekend.
May I suggest another line of thinking for Friday?
“What will the Lord say to me this Sunday as I gather with His people?”
What is stirring your heart to long for Sunday? Who at church has been on your mind and in your prayers that you need to encourage? What burdens, struggles, and pressures are you looking forward to laying at your Lord’s feet? How eager are you to stand alongside others who have been saved by grace, lifting your voice and your hands in humble worship to the One who is worthy of all praise?
Perhaps this week has revealed areas where you have wandered from the Lord. Are you longing to confess your sin, receive His forgiveness, and restore unhindered fellowship with Him? What a wonderful opportunity the gathering of God’s people provides to refocus our hearts upon Christ.
David declared,
“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
For David, gathering with God’s people was not a duty to endure but a delight to anticipate. His heart rejoiced at the invitation to worship the Lord.
May that be true of us as well. Rather than merely waiting for Sunday to arrive, let us spend Friday and the days ahead preparing our hearts to meet with the Lord. Come expectant. Come thankful. Come ready to worship, to hear His Word, to encourage one another, and to glorify the name of Jesus Christ.
What a beautiful way to end the weekâlooking forward with joy to gathering together in His holy name.
