Daily devotion – More missiles fired into Israel!

The Battle Behind the Battle

Scripture:
Dan 10:13 — “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia (Iran) withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

Iran fired a volley of missiles at northern Israel Sunday night, catapulting the region once again to the edge of a much wider conflict. Though no Israelis were injured, the message behind the attack was unmistakable. Iran and its allies continue to declare openly their desire to see Israel removed from existence. This is far more than political disagreement or territorial debate. The cry, “from the river to the sea,” is ultimately a call for the elimination of the nation of Israel.

As observers, we naturally see nations, armies, missiles, leaders, and military responses. On the surface it appears to involve powers such as Iran, Israel, and the United States, along with various Middle Eastern nations either attacking or being attacked. Yet the Bible reminds us there is also another dimension behind world events — a spiritual battle.

Daniel chapter 10 pulls back the curtain and reveals demonic powers influencing kingdoms and nations. Daniel was praying, yet unseen spiritual warfare delayed the answer until Michael the archangel came to assist. This passage reminds us that behind earthly conflicts there are spiritual realities at work.

The growing tension surrounding Israel should not surprise the believer. Scripture has already warned us that the last days would see Jerusalem become the focus of world conflict. Ezekiel chapters 38–39, Zechariah chapters 12–13, and Revelation chapters 6–19 all point to future global turmoil centered around Israel and the Middle East.

The Bible is the only trustworthy source that not only explains what is happening in the world but also reveals where history is heading. God’s prophetic Word assures us that despite the chaos, His purposes will stand. Humanity may pull the triggers, but ultimately God remains sovereign over the nations.

Rev 1:3 — “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

Yes, the time is at hand.

Israel will increasingly stand isolated politically as nations pressure her from every side. Yet God will use even this to bring His people ultimately to Himself, until they realize their only true hope is found in the Lord.

There is also a personal lesson for us. At times God allows us to come to places where we feel isolated, desperate, and cut off from earthly support so we may fully discover that Christ alone is sufficient. Often it is in those lonely valleys that we learn the deepest lessons of faith and dependence upon Him.

As believers, this is not the time for fear, panic, or confusion. It is a time to pray, to remain watchful, to stay grounded in the Word of God, and to keep our eyes fixed upon Jesus Christ.

Ladies, remember this Tuesday at 9:30am here at the chapel to gather together with other godly women, encouraging one another and being used by the Lord today to bring His blessing upon Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour.

Lord, help us to see beyond the headlines and remember that You remain sovereign over all the nations of the earth. Strengthen our faith in these uncertain days and keep our hearts anchored in Your Word. Teach us to trust You fully when we feel isolated or overwhelmed. Help us to live watchfully, prayerfully, and faithfully as we await Your coming. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
