Daily devotion – The eve of D-Day.

Pastor Keith   -

Today is June 5th, the eve of the D-Day landings that occurred in 1944. An estimated 4,414 Allied soldiers were confirmed killed on D-Day (June 6, 1944). Total Allied casualties for the day, including wounded and missing, exceeded 10,000.

Imagine the young men who knew they were about to land on the beaches of Normandy under heavy enemy fire. Who would survive?

You can guarantee their thoughts were not about the things of this life. They each were about to face the reality of death. But then what? What happens when one dies? Much prayer and coming before God was at the forefront of these soldiers, making priority of things perhaps they had never seriously considered before.

The reality of death is spoken of in the Bible in detail.

Hebrews 9:27
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

The Bible says everyone will die, and history proves those words true in every generation and every day.

Have you given serious thought to the matter that you too will one day face?

Today, be sure that your eternity is settled, for one day you will leave this world and stand before God.

2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

You may not be landing on a beach in the midst of war, but with certainty you too will face the enemy called death, just as those who have gone before us.

The wonderful hope of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ came to conquer sin and death through His cross and resurrection. Those who place their faith and trust in Him can face eternity with peace and assurance.

Joh 11:25
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

Today is the day to seek the Lord while He may be found.
