Live Before the Father

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

At the heart of Matthew 6:1-18 is a single, life-changing question: Who are you living for? The praise of people or the approval of God?

Jesus exposes the danger of hypocrisy — performing religious acts for human admiration rather than genuine devotion to the Father. Whether giving, praying, or fasting, the motive matters deeply to God. He sees not only what we do, but why we do it.

The repeated promise in this passage is both sobering and comforting: “Your Father who sees in secret.” Nothing is hidden from Him. He sees through every mask of hypocrisy. But He also sees every quiet act of obedience, every unseen generosity, and every sincere prayer offered in private.

This truth should humble us and free us. We don’t have to perform. We don’t have to impress others. We are called to live before an audience of One, and He is our loving, heavenly Father.

Authentic Christianity is not about appearing spiritual. It is about being transformed by Christ from the inside out. It is a life of genuine relationship with God that flows into humble service and sincere devotion.

Repent of any desire for human praise. Choose the better way; the hidden life of faithfulness that pleases the Father. Give secretly. Pray sincerely. Fast humbly. Live openly before God.

The applause of people is temporary. The reward of the Father is eternal. Choose today to live for His approval above all else.

Heavenly Father, I want to live before You alone. Search my heart and remove any hypocrisy. Help me walk in sincere devotion that pleases You. Thank You for seeing what is done in secret. Amen.
