While You Wait

Matthew 9:18–19, 23–26

Jairus came to Jesus in the worst moment of his life. His daughter was dying, and he — a respected synagogue leader — knelt in the dust in front of everyone and begged. Jesus agreed to come. And then, on the way, He stopped to attend to someone else.

Imagine the agony of that delay. Every minute mattered, and Jesus paused anyway. By the time they reached the house, the girl had died, and the mourners had already begun their wailing. It looked, by every human measure, like Jesus was too late.

He wasn’t. He took her by the hand, and she got up. Healed and whole!

Jairus’s story is for anyone in a season of waiting on God for something urgent — a diagnosis, a marriage, a wayward child, a financial cliff — where the delay itself feels unbearable. It can look, from where we stand, like Jesus has stopped paying attention. Jairus’s story insists otherwise: what looks like delay to us is never neglect to Him.

Jesus was never late to that house. He arrived exactly when He intended to, with power that outlasted even death. Our timeline is not His limitation.
