The Greatness of Our God
Genesis 1:1 — “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Genesis 1:27 — “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
As you start and finish each new day, take a moment to pause and reflect on who has been with you, watched over you, protected you, guided you and blessed you.
None other than the Almighty God—the Creator of heaven and earth!
The prophet Isaiah gives us a glimpse of the greatness of our God:
“Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?”
— Isaiah 40:12
Then Isaiah reminds us:
“God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain.”
— Isaiah 40:22
Our God is above all creation. He is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary, and no one can measure the depths of His understanding.
And yet, this great and awesome God cares for us personally:
“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”
— Isaiah 40:29
When I consider, as David did, the wonder and majesty of our God, great peace and assurance settle once again upon my soul. What a blessing to know that the One who created the heavens and the earth watches over us—even the very breath we breathe. His hand is upon us, His presence surrounds us, and His loving care keeps us.
This makes each day, each moment, and all that God places before us a wonder to behold. Where will He lead me today? What will He ask me to do? What opportunity will He give me to serve Him and be part of His purposes?
Today, walk in the wonder of the greatness of our God.
Rejoice in His presence wrapped around you, trust in His wisdom, rest in His strength, and remember that the hand of the Almighty is upon you.
What a great God we serve!
