Gentle and Lowly
If you were God, and for one moment you let the world glimpse who you really are, what would you say about yourself?
Jesus had every reason to announce His greatness. Instead, He said this: “Learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart” (Matthew 11:29).
Gentle. Lowly. Not the resume of a conqueror — the heart of a Saviour.
The gentleness Jesus claims isn’t weakness; it’s power fully in control, all authority held with an open hand. And the lowliness isn’t circumstance — it’s choice. Philippians 2 tells us that though He existed in the form of God, He made Himself nothing, took on the form of a servant, and humbled Himself all the way to a Roman cross. He willingly chose.
That is who is inviting you to come. Not a distant judge tallying your failures, but a gentle Saviour who left heaven’s glory to walk among the weary and calls Himself their friend.
So here we land, at the end of the week where we began — with a tired heart in need of rest. You don’t need Sarah’s Smash Shack. You don’t need to vanish like Joseph Crater into the dark. You need the One who has already said it, plainly, gently, and without a single condition attached:
“Come to Me… and I will give you rest.”
He is still saying it today. Will you come?
