Stretching Out What Feels Withered
The man in Matthew 12 could not stretch out his hand until, in obedience, he did. Jesus spoke; the man responded, and strength arrived in the very act of trust. That sequence still addresses the places within us that feel withered and beyond recovery.
Some carry a heart so deeply wounded that love and trust seem impossible. Jesus says, in effect, stretch out your heart. The love of God has already been poured into the hearts of His people by the Spirit. We cannot manufacture that love by effort alone, yet we can open ourselves to receive it and to extend it.
Others confront a withered faith; perhaps a fear of failure, or a heaviness that makes joy appear unreachable. Scripture continues to call for rejoicing and for forward steps, not as a demand to pretend, but as an invitation to turn toward the Lord even when feeling and emotion is absent. We may not sense the capacity within ourselves, yet we can choose to trust Him for the strength the command requires.
Still others wrestle with withered obedience: a recurring compromise, a difficult conversation long avoided, a pattern left undisturbed. The command remains, and with it the promise that God supplies what He requires. In every case the principle holds. Look not first at the withered place, but at the One who speaks. His word carries the power to restore.
