Daily devotion: A good day to give thanks – always!

Giving Thanks Every Day

1 Chronicles 16:34 — “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.”

September 25 — what a beautiful day to give thanks unto God!

Every day is a gift from the Lord, and every day gives us another reason to lift our hearts and voices in thanksgiving.

Psalm 30:12 says, “To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.”

Notice those words: “I will give thanks unto thee for ever.”

Our thanksgiving is not dependent upon whether everything is going well. It is not based upon whether the day has been free from problems, storms, disappointments or pain. Sometimes we receive what we hoped for; sometimes we do not. Sometimes the road is smooth; other times the road is filled with difficulties.

But we give thanks unto God not because everything is going our way, but because God is good.

One brother in the Lord whom I am looking forward to meeting in Heaven is that amazing man named Job.

The Bible records the incredible story of Job—a man who loved God, yet was permitted to walk through unimaginable suffering. None of us would volunteer to walk the path Job walked. Yet through his suffering, Job stands as a remarkable testimony of faith.

When everything that he had was stripped away, Job declared:

Job 1:21 — “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Job did not understand everything that was happening. He could not see what was taking place behind the scenes. Yet he still chose to bless the name of the Lord.

What a testimony!

There will be days when we understand God’s blessings, and there will be days when we do not understand His purposes. There will be days of joy and days of sorrow, days of abundance and days of need, days when prayers seem wonderfully answered and days when we are still waiting.

But through them all, God remains good, His mercy endures forever, and He is worthy of our praise.

So today, September 25, whatever you are facing, give thanks unto the Lord.

Thank Him for His goodness.
Thank Him for His mercy.
Thank Him for salvation.
Thank Him for His faithfulness.
Thank Him for His Word.
Thank Him for His presence.
Thank Him for the promise of Heaven.

And if today has brought tears rather than laughter, uncertainty rather than answers, or difficulty rather than ease, remember Job’s words:

“Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Church, let us never allow our circumstances to silence our praise.

Every day is a good day to give thanks. Every day is a good day to bless His name.

For the Lord is good, His mercy endureth for ever, and one glorious day we will stand in His presence and give Him thanks for ever and ever.

Amen!
