Daily devotion – Are you available?
Are You Available?
Matthew 9:37 — “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.”
The Church of Jesus Christ today needs labourers. Jesus looked upon the crowds and saw a great harvest, but He also saw a shortage of workers. The harvest was plentiful, but the labourers were few.
The question is not whether there is work to be done. There certainly is. The question is: Are you available?
When God called Moses, Moses did not feel adequate for the task. He questioned his ability and asked, “Who am I?” (Exodus 3:11). Yet God reassured Moses and promised that He would be with him (Exodus 3–4).
Paul also understood that the work of God is beyond our own human sufficiency. He asked, “And who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Corinthians 2:16). The answer is not found in our ability, experience, or strength. Our sufficiency comes from God.
2 Corinthians 3:5 — “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.”
When God calls you to a task for Him, He does not ask you to be adequate; He asks you to be available.
Think about Switzerland during the two World Wars. Switzerland maintained armed neutrality and was not invaded by its neighbours. Whatever the reasons, neutrality may have worked for a nation, but Jesus Christ does not accept neutrality.
Jesus said:
Matthew 12:30 — “He that is not with me is against me.”
When we are saved by the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ, we are not saved simply to sit on the sidelines. We are saved to serve.
Jesus has given every believer the command of the Great Commission:
Mark 16:15 — “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
The mission has been given. The harvest is still plentiful. The need is still great. And the Lord is still looking for labourers.
Perhaps you feel inadequate. Moses did too.
Perhaps you feel you don’t have the ability. Paul understood human insufficiency.
But God has never asked you to accomplish His work in your own strength. He asks you to make yourself available, and He promises to enable you.
So the question today is not, “Am I good enough?”
The question is:
“Am I available?”
Will you say, “Lord, here I am. Use me.”
The harvest is plentiful. The labourers are few.
Will you be one of them?
