Be a Witness — Be Courageous
Acts 1:8
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
It’s time!
We live in a world where competing beliefs and values are being boldly promoted and pushed into every area of society. Yet it can sometimes seem as though Christianity has been placed in a cupboard, and our nation has thrown away the key!
Recently, we have seen wonderful examples of professional athletes openly acknowledging their faith in Jesus Christ. South African and New Zealand rugby players have been seen praying together after their game, and last Friday players from the San Francisco 49ers and the L.A. Rams gathered together in prayer on the MCG, in front of our nation and the watching world.
What a testimony!
But what about you and me?
The early believers in the book of Acts took the Gospel into their world. They witnessed, they prayed, they gathered together, and they boldly proclaimed Jesus—even when doing so could cost them their lives.
We have the same mission.
There are opportunities all around us: in our school or university class, our workplace, our sporting group, and among our friends. We have opportunities to openly share our faith and our trust in Jesus Christ—to declare that He is the Son of God, that He died for the sins of the world, that He rose again on the third day, and that He is coming again.
But being a witness means being courageous.
It may mean making a stand. It may mean being mocked, rejected, or targeted because of your faith. But how real is our faith in Jesus Christ? Are we truly His witnesses, or have we simply become religious?
Jesus has given us our mission: we are to be His witnesses wherever we go. And He has not left us to do this in our own strength. He promised that the Holy Spirit would give us power to shine as lights in a dark world and to be salt in a decaying society.
So, Christian, be courageous.
Don’t hide your faith. Don’t be ashamed of Jesus. Look for the opportunities God places before you and faithfully speak of Him.
It’s time for you and me to stand, to speak, and to be witnesses for Jesus Christ—for all the world to see and hear!
