Daily devotion – Prayer and the impossible.
Matthew 19: (Mark 10:23–31; Luke 18:24–30 )
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
But with God all things are possible! I do not think that many believers truly understand the power of God and His willingness to channel His power in and through us. Jesus words were in response to a question about the impossibility of a sinful man being made right with God – apart from God. Each time we bump into another believer, there before our eyes is an example of the power of God. The impossible has happened!
Likewise when we as believers look at our own reflection in a mirror. God did the impossible, He made a way for a sinful man/woman, to be justified, sanctified and glorified, and that individual had nothing whatsoever to do with it!
How did God do the impossible? God became a man that He could die. Yes, He was born a man without sin through the Holy Spirit and a young virgin girl called Mary – Luk 1:35
¶
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
Notice it says, “and the power of the Highest will overshadow you…”
Then that child born of Mary, Jesus, would later die a cruel death on Calvary, but by God’s power He would take upon Himself, the sins of the world, He being innocent and He would pay the price of each one of those sins.
Three days after His death, by the power of God once again, Jesus, that innocent sacrifice, the God Man, would rise from the dead alive for evermore.
Knowing this, why don’t people don’t pray, why doesn’t everyone make prayer their most important task. Why? We obviously do not believe God can do the impossible.
Because once we understand the true power of God that is available to each of us, why would you not pray about everything?
Its pretty simple really. But unfortunately, the church prayer meeting has just a few faithful who gather, and the power of God that is available is left untapped by so many others!
Do you believe God can do the impossible?
