How Will You Receive Him?
Matthew 13:53–14:21 lays before us four distinct responses to the real Jesus. Nazareth received Him with disappointment, scandalised by His ordinariness and familiarity. Herod received Him with distress, unwilling to repent when moral exposure came. The crowd came in desperation and found compassion and miraculous provision. The disciples followed Him yet still calculated scarcity until He invited them into dependence and abundance.
The real issue has never been how famous Jesus becomes; it is how people respond when the real Jesus shows up. Fame does not guarantee faith. He may be respected as a teacher or moral example and still be rejected as Saviour. Real faith is rarer than we often think, and where it exists it will be tested. If you follow Him, you may well be treated as He was.
Today, the gospel feast is set before you. Has the Spirit made you aware of your need? Will you remain in disappointment, insisting that God fit your expectations? Will you stay stuck in worldly sorrow that merely manages appearances? Or will you feast on the Bread of Life who alone satisfies and who gives the only approval that ultimately matters: God’s? The bread distributed to the 5000 plus gathered that day was pure gift, not earned. So is Christ: broken for us at the cross, paying a debt we could never repay. He is the humble King who feasts others at His own expense. How will you receive Him?
