Your Caesarea Philippi

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

Matthew 16:15; Acts 4:12

Why did Jesus take His disciples to Caesarea Philippi? Because He was forcing them to answer outside their comfort zone. It’s easy to say “Jesus is Lord” in church, surrounded by friends, with a worship song playing.

So what’s your Caesarea Philippi? Your workplace, your school, your footy club, your family barbecue, a friendship group that’s cynical or even hostile toward Jesus. Will you say, there, who He really is? Not the Jesus of the t-shirt or the bumper sticker, but the Jesus of Scripture?

C. S. Lewis, once an atheist, argued that Jesus’ claims leave us no room for the “great moral teacher” option. He is either a lunatic, a liar, or Lord. Jesus hasn’t left any other door open.

So it comes down to this. Is He a baby at Christmas and a man on a cross at Easter, or the risen Lord of your life? Is He a way to God, or the way? Is He a good man, a great teacher, a prophet, or the Son of God and your only hope?

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

The Father is still revealing the Son to hearts today. “Behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). If He’s already your Lord and Saviour, don’t be ashamed of Him this week. If not, today can be the day you stop asking about Him and start knowing Him.

Who is Jesus? He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
