From the Pastor’s desk
Each time we gather as a church to celebrate Holy Communion, it is a powerful reminder of what Jesus Christ has done for us. But Communion is more than simply remembering an event from the past—it is also a declaration that the message of God’s Word is true. Think about it for a moment. If Jesus had not come into this world, been born of a virgin, healed the sick, raised the dead, willingly suffered and died upon the Cross of Calvary, and then three days later risen triumphantly from the grave, there would be no such thing as Holy Communion. The bread and the cup point us directly to the heart of the Gospel. They remind us that Jesus truly came, truly died, and truly rose again. But there is another wonderful truth contained within Communion. Jesus used the Lord’s Supper to point us not only backwards to Calvary, but forwards to eternity. He told His disciples that He would not drink of the fruit of the vine again until that day when He would drink it with them in His Father’s kingdom. What a promise! Jesus is telling us that Heaven is real, eternity is real, and there is coming a day when we will be with Him in glory. So, each time you hold the bread, remember His body given for you. As you eat it, remember the price He paid for your salvation. As you take the cup and drink, remember His blood shed for the forgiveness of your sins. And as you participate, remember that these things are not empty religious traditions—they are powerful reminders of the truth of Jesus Christ and His promises. If you are a believer and you participate in Holy Communion today, stop and consider what you are actually declaring. Jesus really is the Son of God. Jesus really did come into this world. Jesus really did die on the Cross for your sins. Jesus really did rise from the grave. Jesus really is coming again. And one day, we really will be with Him in glory!
Every Communion service should cause our hearts to worship with greater gratitude and our eyes to look with greater expectation toward the day when faith will become sight. “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.” — 1 Corinthians 11:26
What God has said, He will do.
His promises concerning salvation are true.
His promises concerning eternity are true.
His promises concerning Israel are true.
And His promise that Jesus is coming again is true! So as we take Communion, let us remember His sacrifice, rejoice in His resurrection, and look forward with anticipation to the day when we will celebrate with Him in glory.

Helens’s heart for the women of calvary
I will bless the Lord at all times and His praise shall continually be in my mouth -Psalm 34:1 Challenging times come – financial pressure, sudden illness, personal defeat – praise at these times is a sacrifice. It is akin to saying “I have prayed about this situation and now Lord I will wait on you – even before I see the answer I expect it, I believe and trust.” Most of the verses written about praise in God’s Word were voiced by people facing hardships – they saw praise as a key to their victory. Bees and buzzards differ in their make up. Buzzards circle above looking for animals that are hurt or dead; Bees look only for the good sweet nectar as they fly from flower to flower. They find what they are looking for. We can learn from the bee – look for the good in our struggles and the goodness of our God who “is good to all” – Psalm 145:9.
