The Wonder of God’s Word
There are times when I am simply overwhelmed by the goodness of God! As I read His Word, the Holy Spirit gives me the great joy of seeing so much more than merely words upon a page. God’s Word speaks and breathes wonder and life into my soul.
My inner man is enriched by His goodness and blessing as I begin to understand, even in some small way, just how much God loves me. And oh, how good that is!
This is what the psalmist tells us:
Psalm 34:8
“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Psalm 119:103
“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
God’s Word is not dry or lifeless. It is sweet to the soul and nourishing to the heart. As we come to His Word with open hearts, we discover again and again the goodness of our God.
This is why Paul wrote and reminded us that the Holy Scriptures are inspired—they are literally God-breathed:
2 Timothy 3:16
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
I never tire of reading God’s Word because it is far more than simply a book. It is the living Word through which God speaks to our hearts today. His Word penetrates into the deepest parts of our being, bringing conviction, encouragement, comfort, instruction, and, above all, great joy.
There is something truly wonderful about opening the Bible and discovering that God has something to say to you personally. A familiar verse can suddenly come alive. A passage you may have read many times before can speak directly into the circumstances of your life. The Holy Spirit takes the Word of God and ministers it to our hearts in ways that no other book ever could.
What a privilege it is to have God’s Word in our hands and to be able to open it freely each day.
My prayer is that the next time you read God’s Word, you will not simply read the words on the page, but that God Himself will touch your heart through them. May His Word fill your soul with wonder, draw you closer to Him, and cause unspeakable joy to rise within you as you spend that precious time with Him in His Word.
