Daily devotion: Amazed and in awe yet again!
Jesus’ Death for Us Is Amazing
I love the wonder and simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is simple enough for a child to understand, yet so profound that we could spend eternity marvelling at it!
Jesus Christ took on human flesh so that He might die for us.
Hebrews 2:14 — “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.”
Think about that for a moment. The eternal Son of God became flesh and blood and entered our world with death in view—His death for us.
He was manifested to take away our sins.
1 John 3:5 — “And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.”
Jesus did not come merely to teach us how to live better lives. He came to deal with our greatest problem—our sin. He came to do what we could never do for ourselves.
Jesus Himself said:
Matthew 20:28 — “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
That “many” includes you and me!
The incarnation—God becoming Man—is the declaration of God’s purpose to save. Jesus came into this world knowing that His mission would ultimately take Him to the Cross of Calvary, where He would give His life for the guilty so that they might be forgiven.
The death of Jesus Christ is at the very heart of the Bible. When the risen Jesus spoke with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, He showed them that Moses, the Prophets, and indeed all the Scriptures pointed toward Him and His suffering.
Now take a step back and reflect on all of this.
Right in the heart of God’s eternal plan, His suffering, His sacrifice, and His love sit you and I.
Jesus willingly went to the Cross for sinners. He bore what we deserved so that, through faith in Him, we could receive what we could never earn.
What an amazing Gospel!
Another moment. Another day. Another opportunity to stop and simply thank God for giving us what we did not deserve.
You are loved by the Creator of Heaven and earth, and the death of Jesus Christ forever reminds us just how amazing that love truly is.
Jesus died for us. What a Saviour! What a Gospel! What amazing grace! ✝️❤️
