Daily devotion – Our Ransom has been paid!

✝️ SET FREE TO WORSHIP AND SERVE HIM

Matthew 20:28 — “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

The word “ransom” is one we often associate with a kidnapping—a person is taken captive, and a price is demanded for their release. But “ransom” is actually a biblical word, and Scripture gives us a beautiful picture of what it means.

In Leviticus 25:47–49, we read of a person who had sold himself into servitude and could be redeemed by a close relative who was able to pay the required price.

To ransom or redeem means to deliver a person by paying a price—to buy back someone who is held captive.

This helps us understand our spiritual condition. Sin is like a slave market, where we were “sold under sin.”

Romans 7:14 — “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.”

Sin brought us under the sentence of death:

Ezekiel 18:4 — “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.”

But then came Jesus!

Jesus Christ, by His death on the cross, paid the ransom price for sinners. He came to set captives free. He broke the chains of sin and purchased our redemption—not with silver or gold, but with His own precious blood.

1 Peter 1:18–19 — “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us:

Galatians 3:13 — “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us…”

What a wonderful truth! The price of our freedom was the death of Jesus Christ.

And why has He set us free?

Not simply so that we can continue living for ourselves, but so that we might now live for Him.

We have been set free to worship Him, to love Him, to serve Him, and to do His will.

Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve—and He gave His life as a ransom for many. Now, because of His love for us displayed at Calvary, how could we not thank Him? How could we not worship Him? How could we not desire to serve Him with our lives?

We were once slaves to sin; now we are servants of Christ. We were once captives; now we are free to worship. We were once separated from God; now, through Christ, we belong to Him.

So today, remember the price that was paid for your freedom.

Jesus gave His life for you. Now give your life to Him.

Romans 12:1 — “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

✝️ Set free by His grace. Redeemed by His blood. Saved to worship. Saved to serve.
