Daily devotion – Faithful godly women!
Faithful Women of God
Every second Tuesday morning, a group of faithful ladies gathers here at the chapel to study God’s Word, pray, and encourage one another. The ministry of women in the Body of Christ is one of the great strengths of the local church.
Sadly, too often, much of the burden of serving, praying, and keeping the ministry going falls upon faithful, godly women when men fail to fulfil their God-given responsibility to lead and serve. Yet Scripture reminds us that every member of the Body of Christ has a vital part to play (1 Corinthians 12:12–27).
During our Lord’s earthly ministry, we find a wonderful company of faithful women who loved Him and ministered to His needs. Mary and Martha opened their home to Jesus (Luke 10:38–42; John 12:1–3). Peter’s mother-in-law, after being healed by Jesus, immediately rose and served Him and those with Him (Mark 1:29–31). Luke also tells us of women such as Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna, who supported Jesus and His disciples out of their own resources (Luke 8:1–3).
But to me, one of the most poignant pictures of faithful women is found in the darkest hour of our Lord’s earthly ministry: His crucifixion at Calvary.
While Jesus suffered on the cross, these women remained nearby, witnessing the horror and heartbreak of His suffering. Matthew 27:55–56 tells us that many women who had followed Jesus from Galilee stood watching from a distance. John 19:25 records that His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near the cross.
Think about that for a moment. In the midst of the cruelty, the shame, and the sorrow, these women did not simply disappear when following Jesus became costly. Their love for their Lord kept them near, even when their hearts must have been breaking.
Faithfulness is not always displayed in the spotlight; often, it is revealed in quiet service, persistent prayer, and a love that refuses to give up.
Here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour, we have women of that same spirit. They have been touched by Jesus and changed by His grace. Despite the demands of busy homes, families, work, and everyday responsibilities, they continue to gather under the teaching of God’s Word, pray for others, encourage one another, and serve the Lord faithfully.
Their ministry may not always be seen or publicly acknowledged, but God sees every act of service offered to Him in love.
As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:58:
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
Ladies, thank you for your faithfulness. And may your example challenge every one of us, men and women alike, to be faithful in the calling God has placed upon our lives.
May we never allow the busyness of life to rob us of time in God’s Word, the privilege of prayer, or the joy of serving Jesus Christ.
The Lord is looking for faithful servants, not merely busy people. May we be found faithful, steadfast, and still serving when our Lord returns!
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2
