WHEN LEADERS NEED TO STILL LEAD
In our study in the Book of Exodus which we deal with this Wednesday at the chapel after prayer, there is an amazing portion of scripture that though small in context shouts an enormous message.
Moses has been leading this massive company of people out of Egypt and it has been a most difficult task for this man as their leader. But God chose Moses and Moses was given the responsibility by God to be the leader of His people, the children of Israel.
In chapter 17, they run out of water again in the desert and this “mob” of people turn on Moses once again – their leader.
We will give more detail of this conflict in our study tomorrow night but to ‘cut to the chase’, Moses is asked by God to go to a Rock, with his elders, with the people watching on, after telling them that God will bring forth water from this Rock for them. The whole 2-3 million of them plus their livestock.
Water from a Rock! What a mission and how enormous were the consequences!
But tonight I want you to see something else besides the water from the Rock.
Moses was in the most difficult of positions. the people are angry and accusing him of being the cause of their predicament.
God then asks Moses to strike a Rock with everyone watching and to expect water to come forth.
The point – Moses was to still be the leader and he was expected to continue to lead even though he was in surely the most difficult and emotional of all circumstances. To say things were tough for him would be an understatement!
But Moses still had to lead! That is what God had called him to do!
Dads and mums, when you are in the most difficult of times, you are still to be a godly father and a godly mother. You are still to lead. You are not to retire due to the harshness of the storm or the sheer emotion of the moment. You can’t.
God has called you to lead, and no matter the difficulty, you lead. It is in these very moments that your calling is needed the most, your leadership is required more than ever.
Look to Moses as your example and mentor – how did he do it?
He cried out to God to help him!!!!
