Daily devotion – That man Noah!
“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” — Matthew 24:37 (KJV)
The tragedy of Noah’s generation was not simply that they had never been warned. They had the message of Noah, the evidence of the ark being prepared, and the opportunity to respond. Yet ordinary life continued to consume their attention until the opportunity was gone.
There is also a beautiful reminder in 2 Peter 3:9:
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsufferingtous-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
God’s patience should never be mistaken for His absence or a lack of urgency.
A thought to carry today
The Church must not become so absorbed in the affairs of this world that it forgets its heavenly commission. Like Noah, we are called to be faithful witnesses, proclaiming the warning and, more importantly, pointing people towards the salvation found in Jesus Christ.
We cannot make people listen, nor can we make them believe. But we can faithfully sound the trumpet.
A closing prayer
Heavenly Father,
Awaken our hearts to the urgency of these days. Forgive us when we become distracted by the temporary things of this world and neglect the eternal destiny of those around us.
Give us the courage of Noah to stand faithfully, even when the world refuses to listen. Place within us a burden for the lost, compassion for those who are perishing, and boldness to proclaim the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.
May many hearts be awakened, many lives transformed, and many souls brought into Your kingdom before that great and final day.
In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” —Matthew24:44 (KJV)
