We read of the tragedy that occurred in Aurora Colorado, where in a cinema complex, a crazed gunmen shoots and kills 12 innocent people and wounds 50 more. The flat where the killer lived is a booby trapped nightmare set to kill even more innocent people.
This is a crazed incident that sits in the shadow of Norway where one man killed 77 people in a bloody shooting and explosive spree.
Such events stun the world yet sadly they occur more than once and we steel ourselves for some future copy-cat event.
We will remember it was in Colorado that two individuals went on a shooting spree in a high school campus in Columbine where 12 students and a teacher were murdered.
Last week a bus load of Israeli tourists is blown up in Bulgaria whilst on vacation.
Closer to home, a young man goes to Kings Cross in Sydney with his girlfriend and he is randomly assaulted and dies a few hours later. It is learned that his mysterious attacker had assaulted two other people prior and one other after this incident.
What’s happening to our world? It’s on the verge of the darkest days this world will ever experience – a period Jesus said that unless the days were shorted no flesh would survive – Matthew 24:22.
The Apostle Paul prophesied that the time in which we are living, the Bible calls them the “Last Days” would be like this… But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power…2 Tim 3:1-5.
Syria is a basket case and it borders the northern border of Israel.
The world continues to stagger under another threat of a global financial crisis with Europe having no fiscal foundation.
The time is ripe for a new world leader to ‘fix things’ so it may appear.
The Church is in its final moments of ministry and we have so much work to do.
Let us see the signs of the times and hasten in our fulfilling the Great Commission!
Jesus is coming and his coming is closer now in time than it has even been in all of history.
May you ensure your anchor is embedded in the foundation that is Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection from the grave – He promised to come back for us – we need to be ready!
