God broke the silence…Christmas!
God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth…to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph. – Luke 1:26-27
For four hundred years there was silence from the throne of God and the nation Israel. But God did not break the silence by a prophet but through an angel. The message that Gabriel brought to Nazareth all but overwhelmed a young virgin called Mary.
For she was to become a mother although she was still unmarried and a virgin, and partly because she was given a powerful and amazing threefold description of her son who was to be born.
He was to be named Jesus, His name indicating He was coming to save.
Secondly, He would be great, for He was also given the title of the Son of the Most High. He was the Messiah that had been promised.
Thirdly, His reign over Israel would be a kingdom that would never end.
When God broke the silence of four hundred years it was a sonic boom that we are still hearing today ringing in our very own ears.God has come into our world, born of a virgin, and He has come to save us from our sins!
Christmas is a time we gather to sing as the angels did as the shepherds watched their flocks that first Christmas eve. Prepare your heart, prepare your voice, it is time for us to break our silence and proclaim the Saviour is come – Hallelujah, glory to God in the highest!
Will you break the silence and like the angels proclaim to those working in a weary world – the Christ has come, and He has come to bring them salvation and peace to their souls.
