London burns….
London is burning, the stock market continues to fall, fear and anxiety climb as the world seems to be dancing a drunken waltz. Talk back radio echoes with schools banning the Lord’s Prayer, whilst government leaders celebrate a lifestyle that shadows the time of the building of the Tower of Babel – and the Lord said , Behold, the people is one, …and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do…Genesis 11:6
As I lived through the events, sounds and news of this day, the 9th of August 2011, my heart began to be overwhelmed with the state of the world in which we live. Innocence has been brutally taken away, gentleness and patience are now words found only in a dictionary. Our oldest citizens have fallen prey to brutality and their own frailty. Parents seeking to discipline their own children now are demonized as sadists and yet with all our ‘new’ revelation, our new ‘thinking’, our new ‘tolerance’ the world has entered a blackness that seems impossible to escape.
BUT God in His great love and mercy promised He would return! He promised He would never leave us nor forsake us! He promised that whosoever would call on Him or seek Him out would find Him. In Psalm 73 the writer finds himself looking at the goings on of the world around him and like myself today …begins to slip, being overwhelmed by the seeming injustice of the world in which he too lived.
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then…..verse 17…My flesh and my heart fails; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever verse 26…But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord….verse 28
IF your heart is struggling, if fear and worry are cloaking your thoughts, draw near to God right now and call upon Him. His ear is ever listening for your voice and His mercy and grace are ever available and He will bring comfort to your soul. Over and over when the disciples were overwhelmed with fear, Jesus would arrive, He would stand and He would say, “Fear not o’ you of little faith…” God knows our frailty and He will not allow us to be snatched from the protection of His hand – John 10:29
It is not a time to look down with despair but it is a time to look up…..Jesus is coming soon!
